5th & 6th September 2024: Kick-off meeting and first workshop

Reef-UKC project held a successful kick-off meeting and workshop on the 5th and 6th of September for ECRS and network members! The event brought together a large number of participants from various academic institutions across the UK, along with our industrial partners and members of Birmingham City Council.

Tony Dodd, Deputy Dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Aston University, opened the workshop with a warm welcome. Prof. Dodd highlighted how this grant and the Reef-UKC network unite academics, industry professionals, and local government to focus on the critical and often-overlooked areas of cooling technology and energy consumption.

Keynote speakers James C., Energy – Net Zero Innovation Lead at UKRI, and Dave Pearson, Director of Innovation at Star Refrigeration, sparked insightful discussions on sustainable cooling and cooling from heat technologies.

During the two-day event, we also announced a £100K Seed Funding Call to support 8-10 innovative projects across two rounds. Network members were encouraged to involve early-career researchers (ECRs) and industrial partners in their applications.

We’re thrilled about the collaborative energy and forward-thinking ideas shared at the event, and we look forward to the exciting innovations that will come out of this project!
