Exclusive Industrial Tour at Epta UK

As part of the Reef-UKC network’s continuing mission to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, an industrial visit to EPTA GROUP, a global leader in commercial refrigeration, was organised on 10th November 2025 in Bradford, UK.

The visit brought together a diverse group of academic researchers, engineers, and industrial partners to explore how innovation in commercial refrigeration can drive sustainable cooling solutions and energy resilience across the UK.

Participants were given an exclusive insight into EPTA UK’s cutting-edge research and development facilities, training centre, and large-scale manufacturing plant. The tour offered a first-hand look at advanced refrigeration technologies, including high-efficiency cooling systems, natural refrigerant-based solutions, and digital monitoring innovations that are shaping the future of low-carbon cooling.

Beyond observing technology in action, attendees engaged in in-depth discussions with Epta’s technical experts on the integration of academic research with industrial innovation—highlighting how collaborative projects can accelerate the development of environmentally responsible refrigeration systems. These dialogues underscored the importance of knowledge exchange, skills development, and joint innovation initiatives in addressing the UK’s sustainability and net-zero goals.

“Visits like this are vital for translating academic research into tangible industrial applications,” said one network representative. “They allow researchers to understand real-world challenges and enable companies to benefit from new scientific insights and emerging technologies.”

The Reef-UKC network expresses its sincere gratitude to EPTA UK, especially Jordan Tomes and Matthew Crolla M.Inst.R, for their generous support and coordination throughout the visit. Special thanks also go to Gennaro Gentile and the EPTA GROUP senior management team for sharing their strategic perspectives and engaging meaningfully with the visiting group.

Our appreciation further extends to all Epta staff for their warm hospitality and to all Reef-UKC network members who actively contributed to the success of this event.

This visit not only deepened participants’ understanding of the latest innovations in commercial refrigeration but also reinforced the critical role of academia–industry partnerships in driving energy-efficient, sustainable, and resilient cooling solutions. Through such collaborative engagements, the Reef-UKC network continues to bridge the gap between research and industrial practice, fostering a community committed to building a more sustainable and energy-resilient future for the UK.
