Webinar Series – Innovation in renewable & sustainable cooling
Episode 2 – Thursday, May 29th, 11am – 12:00pm GMT
As global temperatures rise, the demand for cooling is surging at an unprecedented rate. The UK is no exception—hotter summers and record-breaking heatwaves are becoming more frequent. However, conventional cooling systems rely heavily on grid electricity, driving up energy consumption and straining an already overburdened power infrastructure.
The REnewable Energy access for Future UK Net-Zero Cooling (Reef-UKC) Research Network invites you to an engaging webinar series exploring sustainable and renewable-powered cooling solutions. Each session brings together different leading academics and industry professionals to delve into cutting-edge research and innovation in this vital area.
Featured presenters for this session:
Dr. Ahmed Rezk
Reef-UKC Lead | Academic, Mechanical Engineering, Aston University
Dr. Rezk leads research in sustainable heating, cooling, and thermal systems, with expertise spanning from material-level innovations to system-level performance enhancement. He has authored numerous scholarly articles and made significant contributions to the fields of heat transfer and thermal energy systems. Dr. Rezk heads the Sustainable Process Research Group within Aston University’s Sustainable Development Research Centre and the European Bioenergy Research Institute (EBRI).
Dr. Catarina Marques
Senior Research Fellow, London South Bank University
Dr. Marques has over 18 years of experience in funded research projects across food science, refrigeration, and district heating and cooling. Her PhD work on domestic refrigerators earned the prestigious Ted Perry Award from the Institute of Refrigeration in 2012. She has successfully bridged the gap between academia and industry through an industrial CASE award PhD and two Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with Adande Refrigeration, where she also led the engineering department and contributed to award-winning product development.
Mr. Zafer Ure
Founder & Managing Director, PCM Products Ltd.
Mr. Ure specializes in Phase Change Material (PCM) based Thermal Energy Storage and low-energy cooling/heating technologies. He is a passionate advocate for alternative, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly technologies. His work focuses on load shifting and site demand management for practical HVAC and refrigeration applications.
